Dr. Ashley Atencio is a board-certified therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist. After graduating with honors from the University of North Texas with a degree in biology, Dr. Atencio attended the prestigious University of Houston College of Optometry where she received her Doctorate of Optometry.

After graduating with honors from the University of North Texas with a degree in Biology, Dr. Atencio attended the prestigious University of Houston College of Optometry where she received her Doctorate of Optometry.
During her training, Dr. Atencio rotated through several clinics at the University Eye Institute, where she gained knowledge and confidence in pediatric optometry, low-vision, neuro-rehab optometry, and specialty contact lens. She then completed an externship at the Good Neighbor Eye Clinic where she provided medical-based eye care, treating and managing eye conditions such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye. Her last externship was at the Eye Doctor’s Office in Dallas, Texas where she gained experience in fitting and evaluating contact lenses, cataract and refractive surgery co-management, and provided comprehensive eye care.
After graduation, Dr. Atencio continued providing primary eye care at a private practice in Helotes, TX where she gained extensive experience with pediatric eye care as well as ocular disease. She and her husband opened the doors to patients at Lookout Eyecare in the fall of 2022, providing high quality and exceptional care to the surrounding areas of Timberwood Park, North Stone Oak, and Kinder Ranch. At Lookout Eyecare, she is deeply passionate about strabismus, amblyopia, and most especially myopia control with MiSight contact lenses. MiSight contact lenses are specifically designed for myopia control and FDA approved to slow the progression of myopia in children. In addition, Dr. Atencio also treats chronic dry eye using the most advanced technology called the TearCare system and OptiLIGHT IPL.
Dr. Atencio is an active member of the Texas Optometric Association, Bexar County District Optometric Society, and the American Optometric Association. She also is a big supporter of Specht Elementary School and Pieper High School football. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor time with her two kids, enjoying San Antonio eats, and running.
